Benatia: I want to stay at Bayern Munich

The Morocco international is wanted by Inter but he claims that he fully intends to see out his contract with the Bundesliga champions

Medhi Benatia has rubbished reports that he could leave Bayern Munich this summer, insisting that he wants to win the Champions League with the German outfit.

The Morocco international signed a five-year contract upon joining the Bavarians from Roma last summer for a fee of €26 million and played a key role in the club’s Bundesliga title success.

However, Benatia and his defensive colleagues were heavily criticised for their vulnerability in Europe, and their Champions League semi-final loss to Barcelona in particular.

Inter are now keen on bringing the 28-year-old back to Italy, with vice-president Javier Zanetti recently confirming their interest in the player, but Benatia insists that he wants to remain at the Allianz Arena.

“Every summer we speak about my possible transfers, but the reality is that I have a contract with Bayern and I want to respect it,” the centre-half told Mountakhab Tv.

“We lost in the semi-finals of the Champions League to Barcelona and now we want to redeem ourselves next season because the objective of this club is to win the Champions League.

“So, I’m ruling out any possible departure from Bayern.”
