Stramaccioni: "Thanks Indonesia, it’s an honour"

JAKARTA – Following their arrival at the hotel, coach Andrea Stramaccioni, captain Javier Zanetti, Bedy Moratti and chief executive Ernesto Paolillo met the local media. More than 300 journalists attended the opening press conference of the tour, which saw the Champions League and Club World Cup trophies on display, brought along especially for the passionate local fans. Stramaccioni spoke about his first impressions: "It was such a nice feeling to see so many Inter fans at the airport when we arrived. Endless supporters, there were thousands of them. Thank you Indonesia, on behalf of everyone at Inter."

Even though it’s the end of the season, this tour is still very important to Inter, something the coach was keen to point out: "All of us, including our president who’s not here, care a lot about this tour, and Mr. Moratti sends his regards. This is a country where Inter really is adored and just look at how many fans are here to cheer us. That’s why we’re all here, except of course those who are injured or on international duty."

Philippe Coutinho is also in the party and is keen to show what he can do following the conclusion of his loan spell with Espaynol. "It’s not a case of us seeing what he can do in this tour, we’ve no doubts over his ability," added Stramaccioni.

The Inter coach was then asked about transfer rumours involving Rodrigo Palacio joining the club. "Inter has very clear transfer targets and we’re working well, I can’t comment on any new additions because I’ve not had anything confirmed. Nonetheless Inter are working very hard to achieve success both now and going forward. Inter need to be at the top end of the table. We’re now playing European football albeit not the Champions League and we’re striving to get back to the top. Problems are there to be resolved and we are very clear on to how to do that, president Moratti knows what to do."

Indonesia 2012: welcome Inter!

JAKARTA – Indonesia can finally greet Inter: close to 5,000 fans were going wild ahead of the Nerazzurri’s arrival. Now, after 15 hours travelling (with a stop-off in Singapore), Andrea Stramaccioni’s team have just touched down at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

Applause, drums, chanting and singing all weaved into a patchwork of black and blue shirts and flags – testimony to the Indonesian fans’ uncontainable enthusiasm for these colours.

Bedy Moratti and chief executive Ernesto Paolillo are with the team as they make their way to the hotel.

Indonesia 2012: 3,000 fans gather at airport

JAKARTA – The expectation is building at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Jakarta ahead of the team’s arrival and the number of fans has swelled from 2,000 to 3,000. The Indonesian Nerazzurri fans, divided into two seemingly endless black and blue lines, are singing stadium chants typically heard at the Meazza during Inter’s games. They are waiting to catch a glimpse of the players passing in front of them on their way to the bus that will take them to the hotel.

Indonesia 2012: friendlies and training held here

JAKARTA – The Gelora Bung Karno Stadium – which from tomorrow
will be used by Inter both for training and the friendlies on 24 and 26 May –
is primarily a football stadium but it’s also a multi-purpose arena, complete
with a running track. It was opened on 24 July 1962 and dedicated to Soekarno,
the first Indonesian president, who was in power between 1945 and 1967. It
hosted the Asian Games the year it opened.

It originally held 100,800
fans but it was then reduced to 80,083 following refurbishment in 2007, the
year it hosted the final of the Asian Cup. The capacity of the stadium will be lowered to around 70,000 for Inter’s matches.
