Zanetti: "Good job Ranocchia popped up"

MILAN – Javier Zanetti proved yet again that age is no boundary to him. Not only was our 39-year-old skipper still going strong after 120 minutes on the pitch, he even managed to muster the energy to embark on a solo run in the second half of extra time: after beating three opponents he was denied first by the keeper and then by the woodwork. “It would have been great to score…” he sighed after the game. “But then fortunately Ranocchia popped up and sorted it for us! Still, it was a deserved victory – especially if you consider that their comeback started after a dubious foul by Pereira on Diamanti,” Pupi added.

“The Coppa Italia is really important to us,” he stressed. It always has been, we showed that years ago when we started winning it, and we showed it again tonight.”
