Seven Serie A Clubs Oppose Plan to Complete 2019/20 Season

?Seven clubs, including Torino and Sampdoria, are against the plan to resume the 2019/20 league season, but Lega Serie A have released a statement confirming their intention to ‘complete’ the campaign.

Italy has been one of the worst affected countries by the coronavirus pandemic, with over 24,000 dead throughout the country and more than 180,000 confirmed cases, but there have been signs of a slight improvement in the situation in recent weeks.

As far as Serie A is concerned, play was suspended indefinitely in March due to the pandemic, and it has already been mentioned that the season will only be able to resume once it is safe and appropriate to do so.

However, Adnkronos (via ?Football Italia) report that seven Serie A sides are against the campaign resuming. These seven clubs are: Torino, Sampdoria, Bologna, SPAL, Udinese, Brescia and Parma. The original report further adds that Fiorentina were also on this list, but the club have since denied this.

Their reason for not wanting to see the rest of the 2019/20 season played out is down to ‘the presence of an incalculable risk.’

Despite this, Lega Serie A have now confirmed once again that they intend to complete the current campaign in full compliance with the rules and government advice regarding health and safety.

The statement on their ?official website read: “The ?Serie A League Council, which met today, unanimously confirmed its intention to complete the 2019/2020 sports season, if the Government allows it to take place, in full compliance with the rules for the protection of health and safety.

“The resumption of sporting activity, in the so-called Phase 2, will take place in accordance with the indications of Fifa and Uefa, with the decisions of the FIGC as well as in compliance with the medical protocols for the protection of footballers and all professionals.”

It is further reported that a meeting will be held on Tuesday, and in this, the topic of the resumption of the season will once again be discussed.
