Serie A Team of the Week: Di Natale downs AC Milan

The latest round of Italian top-flight action saw some familiar names put in star performances

Two golden oldies of Italian football stole the headlines in week 27 of the Serie A season, and they gain their just reward with inclusions in the latest Goal Team of the Week.

Pepe Reina may not yet fall in the veteran category, but he delivered a showing of great maturity and cool decision-making as Napoli beat Roma, while Guglielmo Stendardo was also key to the downfall of a capital giant as Atalanta overcame Lazio. Gabriel Paletta celebrated his Italy debut in midweek and rounded off a great few days with a starring role in Parma’s victory over Verona, while the much-maligned Andrea Ranocchia was back on form for Inter in their 1-0 win against Torino at San Siro.

Esteban Cambiasso was another Nerazzurri star, while Inter’s Ibrahima Mbaye continued his great season on loan at Livorno with two goals for the Amaranto before their collapse against Sampdoria. Allan helped to keep AC Milan’s midfield quiet as Udinese took three points off Clarence Seedorf’s men, and former Zebrette star Kwadwo Asamoah was Juventus’ latest matchwinner as Fiorentina left Turin empty handed.

It was Jose Callejon‘s fine header which settled the big clash at San Paolo as Napoli saw off Roma, and he finds himself alongside our two elder statesmen in the front line. Antonio Di Natale did what Antonio Di Natale does, finishing off a nice team move to give Udinese victory against Milan, while Antonio Cassano pulled all the strings in Parma’s win against Verona.
