MILAN – With last night’s victory against Varese, Sampdoria won their place back in the top flight of Italian football after just one season. The Serie A 2012/13 is now complete and there will be four major derbies once again, involving the cities of Milan, Turin, Rome and Genoa.
Among the three newly-promoted clubs are two of Inter’s traditional rivals: Torino, whom they played for the first time in the 1909/10 season, while their first game against Sampdoria dates back to 1946/47.
The Nerazzurri have only played against Pescara on 11 occasions (one of these being in the Coppa Italia): their first meeting dates back to 1976/77 and the last to the 1992/93 season. Inter were to return to the Stadio Adriatico in Pescara when they took part in the Tim Trophy on 13 August 2009 to the joy of the many fans in the 40-plus Inter Clubs in Abruzzo.
