Sanchez: ‘I trust my instincts’

Inter forward Alexis Sanchez said he trusts his ‘instincts and abilities’, spoke about his experiences with Arturo Vidal and revealed Romelu Lukaku is ‘always positive and loves to learn’.

The Chilean moved permanently to Inter after having spent 2019-20 on loan at San Siro and was asked about his own characteristics by the Match Day Programme ahead of the match against Lazio on Sunday.

“One-on-one, having a 360-degree overview and doing things that others don’t,” he said about himself. “I trust my instincs and my abilities.”

The former Barcelona, Arsenal and Manchester United forward said he ‘always wanted’ to become a footballer and said he was forced to ‘grow up quickly’.

“Being born in Tacopilla meant growing quickly for me right from the start,” he admitted.

“I started playing with adults early and it taught me to be strong. From an early age, I always wanted to become a professional footballer.”

His Chile teammate Arturo Vidal joined him at the Nerazzurri last summer and Sanchez spoke about the experiences they have together.

“Vidal and I have learned many things together, from the games with Colo Colo to the U20 World Cup,” he continued. “It was a wonderful experience that allowed us to get to know each other even more.

“Now, we are here and he has grown a lot as a person and player.”

Sanchez also praised Romelu Lukaku, who he played with at Manchester United too.

“He is always positive, smiling, and he loves to learn,” Sanchez added. “Every day he gives his best and you can see how he develops with the coach.”

Sanchez said he will always remember his debut with Chile against New Zealand in April 2006.

“The debut with Chile was a special day,” he said. “Playing for your national team is the dream of all players.

“It’s one of those emotions that will remain with you forever.”
