Picking the Best Potential Inter Lineup to Face Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday

Inter travel to the Nou Camp to face Barcelona in their third Champions League group match on Wednesday evening.

I Nerazzurri boast a 100% record in Europe so far, having scraped past Tottenham and PSV, and are joint top of group B alongside Barca, who have also won their opening two matches. A win for either side would boost both side’s knockout aspirations, so there is everything to play for.

Here’s a look at how Inter could potentially line up.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Samir Handanovic (GK) – Inter’s number one will keep his place in goal.

Miranda (CB) – Injury concerns means Inter may have to revert to a back three – paving the way for Miranda to start.

Stefan de Vrij (CB) – De Vrij has been performing reasonably well so far this season and has made the move over from Lazio appear effortless.

Milan Skriniar (CB) – At just 23 years old, Skriniar has cemented himself as one of the best centre-backs in Italy and he is a certainty to start on Wednesday.

2. Midfielders

Sime Vrsaljko (RM) – The Croatian will occupy a slightly more advanced role, but will be asked to track back to deal with Barcelona’s various attacking threats.

Borja Valero (CM) – Valero has been making more starts recently and will come into the side for the injured Marcelo Brozovic.

Matias Vecino (CM) – One of Inter’s most consistent performers so far this season, Vecino is likely to partner Valero in the middle of the park.

Kwadwo Asamoah (LM) – Asamoah will be playing a role familiar to him from his days spent at his former club Juventus, and will be asked to provide cover defensively just like Vrsaljko.

Matteo Politano (AM) – Politano is used to playing out wide, but Inter’s injury concerns will mean he is forced to fill in for Radja Nainggolan in a free roaming role.

3. Forwards

Lautaro Martinez (ST) – The Argentinian could get a rare start to provide support for Mauro Icardi up top, in a rejigged front line that accommodates for the missing Ivan Perisic.

Mauro Icardi (ST) – After a slow start to the season, Icardi has exploded into life recently and has been banging in goals for fun. He scored a late winner in the Milan derby on Sunday, highlighting just how important he is to Inter.
