Former Inter President Massimo Moratti says José Mourinho is his favourite coach and divulges he tried to sign Marek Hamsik from Napoli.
The Nerazzurri are the Serie A table leaders with a nine-point lead over second-placed Milan.
“Inter have a good gap, I’m superstitious, so I don’t want to mention anything, but I feel Inter will manage this gap. Juventus have a game in hand, but they need to play against Napoli,” Moratti told Radio Kiss Kiss.
The former Inter President went on to speak about his era at the club.
“José Mourinho is the coach that I still have in my heart, and he’s the foremost winning coach too, albeit it had been under Roberto Mancini that we started winning consistently, and that I don’t ditch Gigi Simoni.
“I wanted to sign Marek Hamsik and I called De Laurentiis, but he replied he didn’t want to sell him.
“It was our mistake to not sign him from Brescia once we could. Lavezzi was another excellent footballer.
“At that point, there wasn’t an excessive amount of difference between the clubs so everyone could sign players to keep the championship balanced,” he continued.
Moratti was also asked if Cristiano Ronaldo deserved to be sent off against Cagliari for a reckless tackle on Alessio Cragno.
“I think that was worth a red card albeit Ronaldo isn’t mean. He didn’t do this intentionally.”
