Inter players complained about a potential penalty kick they were not awarded in the first half of their Genoa clash yesterday. Here’s what Italian media say about the challenge between Mattia Bani and Romelu Lukaku.
None among the three main Italian sports papers claim the challenge of the Italian defender was a ‘clear foul’ but both Il Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport call the decision of the referee Davide Massa ‘doubtful’ despite rating his performance 6, which means a passing grade.
As per La Gazzetta dello Sport, Bani’s challenge was not worth a penalty kick.
“The timing of the tackle is right and Bani avoids a contact worth a penalty,” the referee review reads. “Maybe, it was the Belgian who used his arms too much at the beginning of the action.”
Inter, however, did not need a spot kick to beat Genoa as Antonio Conte’s men won 2-0 with goals came courtesy of Lukaku and Danilo D’Ambrosio.
