Lautaro Martinez admits sometimes it’s tough to ‘keep up with’ Romelu Lukaku when at full speed, while Inter going top of the table is ‘only the beginning.’
The Argentina international won a penalty and scored perhaps the easiest goal of his career when tapping into an empty net after Lukaku ran from his own half in the 3-1 win over Lazio.
“Romelu works so hard for the team and sometimes I have to start the runs early to keep up with him on those counter-attacks,” Martinez told Sky Sport Italia.
“I was a little tired, but I’ve done the recovery work in training and feel ready now whenever the coach wants to use me.”
This result means Inter are top of the Serie A table going into next week’s Derby della Madonnina with Milan.
“We are very happy to be out there in front of everyone, it’s what we’ve been working for. As the coach said, this has to be only the beginning, so we must keep hold of first place and not let it go.
“There’s the derby on Sunday, if we want to stay up there, we have to keep working the way we have been so far.”
