The Croatian starlet will wear the same number of shirt as past Nerazzurri heroes such as Adriano, Ronaldo and Roberto Baggio and says it was a surprise when he got the Inter call
New signing Mateo Kovacic still cannot quite believe his luck at having moved to Inter and in getting to wear the legendary No.10 shirt.
The 18-year-old attacking midfielder joined Andrea Stramaccioni’s side from Dynamo Zagreb after the two clubs came to agreement on a reported €11 million fee.
The highly-rated youngster admits he did not expect the move to materialise, but at the same time he is overjoyed that it did and he will get to put on the iconic No.10 jersey.
“I was a bit surprised,” he told the press.
“But I’m very proud and happy to be at a club such as this one.
“I’m also honoured that I’ll be able to wear the No.10, but it’s not really about the number on my back – I have to play well.”
The young Croatian also revealed his admiration for Robert Prosinecki, though, he is determined to make his own mark.
“Robert Prosinecki is my favourite footballer of all time, but I like being myself,” he added.
“What matters is that I give it everything. I really like the tactical side and I think I can offer a lot through the middle.
“I can play in a deep midfield position, but also an attacking one. But it’s not up to me, that’s the coach’s job.
“I know Italian football is tough but I’ll get used to it.”
