Juventus v Inter: the numbers before the game

MILAN – While awaiting Juventus v Inter on the pitch, Football Data
gives us some interesting numbers and stats on the historic fixture.

Tonight’s match scheduled at the Juventus Stadium – the 194th encounter
between the Bianconeri and the Nerazzurri and the 95th played in Turin – is a
meeting between the top two teams in the standings who can boast record
numbers: in the 2012/13 Serie A season the Bianconeri have a record of 9 wins
while the Nerazzurri follow with 8. Juventus are the only team that have yet to
lose, while Inter are the only team that have yet to draw. The Bianconeri have
the best attack (22 goals scored, together with Roma) and the best defence (5
goals conceded). Inter have the third best attack with 19 scored. Juventus have
so far won all five home games played in the 2012/13 league season, while Inter
have won all 5 away games played. The Bianconeri can boast the best attack at
home (12 goals), and the Nerazzurri have the second best away attack (11 goals,
a figure second only to Roma with 13, although the Giallorossi can also count
the 3 goals in the victory awarded by arbitration against Cagliari).

Juventus, who finished the 2011/12 season with 22 of their players
having found the net, reached 20 goals after 10 matches of the 2012/13 Serie A
season through 12 different players: Asamoah, Caceres, Giaccherini, Giovinco,
Lichtsteiner, Marchisio, Matri, Pirlo, Pogba, Quagliarella, Vidal and Vucinic.
In this same category Inter follow with 10 different players having scored:
Cambiasso, Cassano, Coutinho, Guarin, Milito, Palacio, Pereira, Ranocchia,
Samuel and Sneijder.

Inter are coming off of 8 consecutive competitive victories earned in
the Serie A against ChievoVerona (2-0 away), Fiorentina (2-1 at home), AC Milan
(0-1 away), Catania (2-0 at home), Bologna (3-1 away) and Sampdoria (3-2 at
home), and in the Europa League against Neftçi (3-1 away) and Partizan Belgrade
(1-0 home).

The last match they failed to win goes back to 23 September in a Serie A
home loss to Siena. Inter are also coming off of 8 competitive away wins
against Hajduk Split and Vaslui (3-0 and 2-0 respectively in the Europa

Summed up, Inter have so far won all competitive away matches played in the
2012/13 season.

Gianluigi Buffon has let in more goals against Inter (in competitive
matches) than any other club in his professional career: 36 of the 558 total
put past the Juventus goalkeeper have come from the Nerazzurri. Inter are the
club that Claudio Marchisio has scored the most of his goals against so far in
his professional career: 2 of the 21 total.
