The summer signing scored twice in his new side’s latest pre-season friendly and believes he can form an effective attacking unit with the Argentine
Inter new-boy Stevan Jovetic spoke of his goal to form a productive strike partnership with Mauro Icardi after the pair shone in the club’s 2-0 friendly victory over Athletic Bilbao.
The 25-year-old, who joined the club from Manchester City this summer, scored both goals as the Nerazzurri secured an impressive win on Saturday ahead of the new Serie A season.
“Icardi is a strong striker, he proved that last year and our understanding will grow and grow,” Jovetic told reporters after the game.
Jovetic was less than prolific during his two seasons at Manchester City after struggling with injuries and failing to make his mark on the first team, but revealed his thirst for goals with Inter this term.
“I have come here for that [to score goals], I have scored twice and I want to do even better,” added the Montenegro international.
“There are two weeks until the start of the season and I hope to feel better and better. I know my team-mates and hopefully we carry on like this.”
Team-mate Icardi scored 22 Serie A goals last season, tying for first place with veteran Luca Toni in the league’s top goalscorer standings.
