Jonathan: Inter enjoying a lucky spell

The Brazillian full-back admits that the Nerazzurri have hit a patch of good fortune, after their narrow 2-0 win over Livorno, and is urging his team-mates to take full advantage

Jonathan claimed that Inter are in the middle of a lucky spell after edging past Livorno on Saturday night and must capitalise in order to keep pace in Serie A.

The Nerazzurri took the lead when the Brazilian’s first-half cross was diverted into his own net by goalkeeper Francesco Bardi before Yuto Nagatomo sealed the 2-0 victory in stoppage time.

Speaking to Sky Italia after the game at San Siro, Jonathan acknowledged that his side had perhaps been fortunate but stressed that they needed to use that to their benefit as they chase league leaders Roma.

“Luck is with us for now,” the 27-year-old defender conceded.

“We’re going along nicely and things are good. The second half was not the best and we should certainly look to improve even more because difficult games are coming up.”

The Milanese outfit sit fourth in the table, currently six points behind pace-setters Roma, with both Napoli and AC Milan to come in the next five rounds of league action – and the importance of maintaining a winning run ahead of those crunch clashes is certainly not lost on Jonathan.

“The other day I spoke with [midfielder Esteban] Cambiasso after training,” he revealed.

“We know that this current spell of four games [before facing Napoli on December 15] are crucial to achieving what we want to since in the coming weeks there are so many matches between the top teams.

“We have won the first one, now let’s train hard and try to improve.”

After their victory over Livorno, Inter sit in fourth place in Serie A, with 25 points from 12 games.
