Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta Denies Reports Christian Eriksen Has Agreed to San Siro Move

?Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta has dismissed reports claiming the Italians have won the race for Tottenham Hotspur contract-rebel Christian Eriksen.

Various media outlets have suggested the Dane has secured his Spurs exit and that a move to San Siro is imminent. I Nerazzurri are just one of numerous clubs looking to sign him during the January transfer window, with Eriksen’s deal due to expire in the summer, and talks over extending it currently in deadlock.

It’s recently been reported that the 27-year-old is set to join Antonio Conte’s side ?’in the next few weeks’, but Marotta has moved quickly to play down such speculation.

He said of the ?Spurs playmaker (as quoted by ?Fabrizio Romano): “Eriksen? It’s not a done deal, and we’re not in contact with Tottenham. He’s a fantastic player, and there are many clubs in talks to sign Eriksen because he’ll be a free agent. I can just say he’s an interesting player.”

The midfielder has often found himself reduced to a place among the substitutes since Jose Mourinho was brought in to replace Mauricio Pochettino in late November, as he has been unwilling to sign a new deal at the club.

If he does complete a transfer to the ?Serie A giants, the former Ajax man would be giving up on ?Champions League football for the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign following ?Inter’s group stage exit.

Christian Eriksen

However, Eriksen would still be in the hunt for prestigious honours, with ?I Nerazzurri currently sit in the top two in Italy after winning 13 of their first 17 league fixtures.

Inter are clearly an attractive side right now, and Marotta’s comments don’t drastically change the picture. Tottenham will lose their star midfielder this month, and there’s still reason to think he’ll end up at San Siro.

There’s been a media frenzy linking Eriksen with a move to the city of Milan, and there’s no smoke without fire. This is a transfer that’s very much on the cards.
