The hat-trick hero was delighted to with his performance and has great confidence that he and Pablo Osvaldo will make a strong strike partnership this season
Mauro Icardi says he is thrilled after scoring a hat-trick in Inter’s 7-0 annihilation of Sassuolo on Sunday and believes everything went his side’s way in the game.
The 21-year-old opened the scoring early on before adding two more to his tally, while Pablo Osvaldo scored twice and Mateo Kovacic and Fredy Guarin capped off a fine display.
Inter coach Walter Mazzarri insisted the side’s performance was “ideal” but the star of the show maintains that, while he is happy with the display, they must keep on improving.
“I’m very happy to have scored a hat-trick, it makes me even more pleased that I have scored it in front of our fans,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“It went well with my partnership with Osvaldo, but we are aware that we still have to work hard to improve.
“But the thing that should stand out is that the team played well, we were able to immediately unlock them and everything went our way.”
The striker was then asked about his Sassuolo counterpart, Simoni Zaza – with whom he played at Sampdoria – and the Argentine believes he deserved his recent call-up to the Italy national team.
“I’ve known him since the days of Sampdoria and in my view he deserved to be called by Conte,” concluded Icardi.
