Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic admitted Atalanta gave them a ‘tough game’ and was happy to possess secured an ‘important win’ on Monday night.
The Beneamata were pushed by Gian Piero Gasperini’s men at San Siro but got away unscathed when Milan Skriniar grabbed the winner within the 54th minute.
Handanovic was pleased to ascertain his teammates ‘suffer together’ and devour three more points within the title race.
“We expected a difficult match because Atalanta are a superb team,” Handanovic told Sky Sport Italia.
“They are showing it both in Italy and in Europe, they’re tough to play against. i feel it had been a game where we suffered a touch , but we still win this manner.”
The veteran shot stopper admitted it had been tough bot ‘physically and tactically’, but was content the team got away with a clean sheet and three points.
“The details decide these games,” he said. “They were dangerous within the half but we were good and lucky to not concede then we did it.
“It was a troublesome game, physically and tactically. The important thing is to always win because all of the matches are worth three points.
“This was a crucial win for the championship. the opposite teams also will play against Atalanta, who aren’t a simple opponent.”
Handanovic made some decisive saves and said the ‘full weeks to prepare’ for the matches in Serie A have helped the Nerazzurri.
“Everything starts from daily training within the sense that we’ve full weeks to organize for the matches,” he said.
“Leaving Europe was an enormous disappointment and is an open wound, but on the opposite hand, it gave us the likelihood to regroup and train better. The results are often seen.”
Inter are six points clear at the highest of Serie A and have an enormous advantage within the Scudetto battle.
“We need to play as we’ve done thus far ,” Handanovic added. “When you’ve got to play and dribble, you’ve got to try to do it together and that we got to suffer together when that’s required.
“You don’t need to win with an honest game, but you want skills to win them.”
