CL: Inter and Real Madrid meet again

Inter take on Real Madrid for the 16th time, but they haven’t crossed paths since a Roberto Baggio masterclass in November 1998.

They are placed together in Champions League Group B with Shakhtar Donetsk and Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Nerazzurri’s record against Real Madrid is of seven wins, two draws and six defeats.

They haven’t crossed paths since November 25, 1998, when Roberto Baggio took control of a 3-1 Inter triumph at San Siro in the Champions League group stage.

Ivan Zamorano had opened the scoring on the rebound from Ronaldo’s effort, Clarence Seedorf equalised, then Baggio bagged a late brace for Gigi Simoni’s side.

Their first ever encounter was the biggest, Inter winning 3-1 in the European Cup Final on May 27, 1964.

There were also semi-finals in 1965-66, 1980-81 and UEFA Cup semis in 1984-85 and 1985-86.

Of course, Inter also have very fond memories of the Bernabeu, because it was in this stadium that they won the Champions League in 2010 to complete the Treble under Jose Mourinho.
