Cassano: "Inter above the sky"

APPIANO GENTILE – Antonio Cassano was in the mood for talking. The ‘new Antonio’, as he defined himself when presented to the media at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti today. Wearing a smile, overflowing with emotions and pointed. Without trying to hide the truth. With no fear.

Cassano is a happy man now and you can tell: “The most important thing for me was that Marco [Branca] and Piero [Ausliio] agreed with the coach about signing me. I want to thank president Moratti, who is in charge of it all and who welcomed me affectionately the other day, but also Marco and Piero, because when things aren’t going so well everyone is quick to point it out, but when things are going well ? given the excellent transfer business that has been done ? nobody talks about it, because they’re no good at licking you know what… I can tell you that I’m happy and it’s very important for me that they’ve bought me, it’s important that they’ve placed their trust in the ‘new Antonio’.

Lots of questions from curious journalists, with the forward reminded of what he said the day he was unveiled as an AC Milan player (“There’s nothing above Milan but the sky. If I mess up here I want locking away.”). Cassano retorted: “I said ‘if I mess up’, but I wasn’t the one who messed up. Somebody else who is above the coach messed up. He made promise after promise but it was all smoke and no fire, and that’s why I had to leave. Do I mean Galliani? Those are your words… I would like to thank everyone at Milan and the fans. When I had my heart problem they gave me lots of support, my team-mates too. I’m not going to thank him, all smoke and no fire. I thank Silvio Berlusconi, who offered me all his support. I thank Barbara Berlusconi, who was really nice to me. Tavano, who saved my life, and Tassotti. Not others. And that’s not ingratitude. And another thing: I said there’s nothing above Milan but sky? After the sky – above the sky – there’s Inter.”

Appiano: Pereira trains with new team-mates

APPIANO GENTILE – The Nerazzurri trained at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti this morning as they prepare to embark on another Serie A campaign, starting with tomorrow evening’s match at Pescara. Professor Stefano Rapetti put the players through their paces with a warm-up, ball-possession drills and tactical work.

Alvaro Pereira, training with his new team-mates for the first time, completed the entire workout.

Appiano: on the pitch with Cassano and Gargano

APPIANO
GENTILE – The day after their away match in Romania and thinking
ahead to the Pescara game, Andrea
Stramaccioni
divided the squad into two groups. The players who were largely
involved in last night’s UEFA Europa League tie underwent light
training, whereas the others warmed up before practising ball
possession and finished with a training match.

Antonio
Cassano and Walter Gargano worked with the squad for the entire
session.

Pereira: "Inter, everyone’s dream in S. America"

MILAN Alvaro Pereira landed at Milano Malpensa airport a few minutes ago along
with Nerazzurri technical director Marco Branca. He was immediately
surrounded by a host of journalists who wanted to meet him and
introduce him to their readers.

The Uruguayan left-sider spoke of his joy at being in Italy: “Inter
is a dream: you just cannot imagine how much this club is loved and
supported abroad. Inter is every player’s dream and even more so in
South America. I’m happy. The thought of playing for Inter is simply
amazing. I can’t wait to get the medical over so I can join the
squad.”

It was pointed out to Pereira that his name is Alvaro just like a
certain Mr Recoba: “I have always watched Alvaro Recoba
playing,” he said smiling,”I’ve always followed his career.”

No sooner had he arrived than he made his intentions clear: “Let’s
hope we can win a lot of trophies so we can make the Inter fans
happy. I’ll team up with Gargano and Guarin, fortunately I have these
friends here who will help me settle in with the rest of the squad
quickly. Where do I prefer to play? What’s important now is being at
Inter and meeting my team-mates. What have Guarin and Gargano told
me? That Inter is a fantastic club.”
