Branca: "Pleased that Stekelenburg is better"

MILAN – (ANSA) "We’re pleased that Stekelenburg is able to return to Roma’s training ground," said Inter technical director Marco Branca when asked by ANSA about the contact between Lucio and the Roma keeper during Saturday’s match. "So an unfortunate incident seems to be turning out well," Branca continued. "At Inter we went through something similar with Chivu in Verona two seasons ago, so we know that in cases like these the solidarity is not just front but an important emotive aspect. That’s why we were immediately in contact with Roma and the medical team who treated the Dutch keeper on Saturday night. The person who most worried during the interval was Lucio. That’s why our defender wanted to give an interview yesterday to send his wishes to Stekelenburg, as he hadn’t been able to do that at San Siro, and to explain how pleased he was that everything was going for the best."

Branca went on: "Lucio is a consummate professional, a true lover of the sport. On the pitch he gives everything but always with respect for the game and for his opponents. He showed that also on this occasion." (ANSA)
