Serie A Team of the Week: Matri leads Fiorentina quartet

The second half of the Italian league season began with some star performances from the Viola amongst others

The first Serie A Team of the Week of the ritorno has more than a tinge of violet about it, with Fiorentina’s big win at Catania ensuring a heavy presence for the Tuscans.

In goal, though, is Genoa’s Mattia Perin following his key role in the Grifone‘s 1-0 win over Inter, with Luca Antonelli also starring in the Nerazzurri‘s surprise defeat. Alessandro Lucarelli led Parma to a come-from-behind win at Chievo, while Gonzalo Rodriguez was Fiorentina’s defensive rock in their success in Sicily.

While Verona eventually lost to Milan, Romulo gave the home side all sorts of problems, and Manuel Pasqual was similarly dangerous for Fiorentina at Catania. The centre of midfield is dominated by Juventus though, with Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal making light work of Sampdoria, netting three goals between them.

Further up, Mati Fernandez gets the nod after linking superbly to the attack for Fiorentina and grabbing the opening goal, and team-mate Alessandro Matri comes in after a debut double. Ciro Immobile gets the final spot in the lineup as reward for his goal and all-round display as Torino beat Sassuolo.
