Serie A Team of the Week: Double delight for Gervinho

Goal picks out the stars from Italy’s latest round of top-flight action as Roma continue their stunning early-season form

There are three two-goal heroes in this week’s Serie A Team of the Week, but none of them come from Inter thanks in part to the fantastic display in goal by Cagliari’s Michael Agazzi.

In front of him are three players of great stature. Mehdi Benatia continued his fantastic form with a goal and a clean sheet in Roma’s 5-0 win over Bologna, while Gonzalo Rodriguez netted the equaliser and dealt well with Parma’s threat in Fiorentina’s 2-2 draw. Philippe Mexes was one of AC Milan’s star men as they held off Sampdoria to triumph 1-0.

Alessandro Florenzi‘s contribution to Roma’s big win sees him recognised, while Jaroslav Plasil gets the nod after helping Catania to a first win of the season against Chievo with the opening goal. Paul Pogba was the man for Juventus once more, netting the only goal in the derby win over Torino, while Juan Vargas was back with a bang for Fiorentina, scoring what had looked likely to be the winner.

Goran Pandev scored both Napoli goals in the win over Genoa, while Gervinho‘s brace helped Roma to embarrass Bologna. Elsewhere, there were two more for German Denis in Atalanta’s 2-0 victory against Udinese.
