Goal.com runs through the best performers from the latest action in Italy’s top flight

Serie A closes down for the international break with a thrilling round 29 having been chalked up in the books, with the winter weather having done nothing to stop some of Italy’s best talent drive their teams on towards a fascinating run-in. And despite there having been only nine fixtures to choose from, there were still plenty of candidates for the latest Goal.com Team of the Week.

Siena claimed a valuable point in their struggle to avoid relegation thanks largely to the excellent performance of Gianluca Pegolo between the posts.

He’s joined in our team by Mattia De Sciglio, who once again showed how far he has developed since breaking into the Milan side a year ago in the Rossoneri‘s 2-0 win over Palermo. Nicolas Burdisso was also on a winning team as he helped to keep Parma at bay in Roma’s victory at the Olimpico, while Danilo D’Ambrosio was a shining light amongst the snowy mess that was the Torino-Lazio clash, helping the home side to a 1-0 win.

Fiorentina were helped to a third straight win by Juan Cuadrado‘s performance against Genoa, while Alessio Cerci celebrated his call-up to the Italy national squad with a stand-out showing for Torino. Claudio Marchisio helped Juventus march on towards a second straight Scudetto with a goal at Bologna, and Alejandro Gomez was a star for Catania once more as they crushed Udinese.

Edinson Cavani bounced back to form with a double for Napoli in the 3-2 win against Atalanta, and Mario Balotelli was also on the score-sheet twice as Milan stayed on the Partenopei‘s coat-tails in the race for second place. Meanwhile, Francesco Totti struck a 226th Serie A goal as Roma saw off Parma to move level with Lazio in the league table.
