Rüdiger ‘turned down one or two offers’

Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rüdiger admitted he studied his alternatives during the transfer market, amid links with Roma, Inter and Milan.

The former Roma defender was linked with a return to Serie A and the Giallorossi were mentioned in Italian media as a possible destination for the German.

Milan and Inter appeared to be looking at a possible loan deal with the Blues, but Rüdiger wasn’t rushing to get a deal over the line.

“Naturally, I looked at a couple of options in the two weeks before the end of the transfer window,” he told The Athletic.

“There was a possibility of a loan deal, in order for me to get more game time. Due to many different reasons and the shortage of time, nothing materialised in the end.”

Rüdiger, capped 35 times by Germany, played 72 games for Roma before he moved to Chelsea for €35m in July 2017.

But the Germany international revealed he wasn’t prepared to return and admitted he enjoys life in the English capital.

“I turned down one or two options myself. I wasn’t prepared to pack it all in simply because I had been left out a few times,” he said.

“I enjoy living in London and like being at Chelsea.”
