The ex-France boss believes his compatriots are destined to achieve great things and have the potential to play at the Juventus ace’s level
Former France coach Raymond Domenech believes new Inter signing Geoffrey Kondogbia has the potential to reach the same level as Juventus star Paul Pogba, while he also has plenty of praise for Giannelli Imbula.
The Nerazzurri beat arch-rivals AC Milan to the capture of Kondogbia earlier this month, agreeing to pay Monaco €35 million for a midfielder who impressed in last season’s Champions League.
In addition, Inter are also set to land Marseille ace Imbula in the coming days.
Domenech has followed the careers of both men closely and believes that the pair will shine at San Siro, arguing that they could make the same instant impact in Serie A as Pogba, who arrived at Juve from Manchester United in 2012.
“Pogba is still the superior player at this stage. He is already a Ferrari, just like [Arturo] Vidal, although he wouldn’t know how to drive one… But both Kondogbia and Imbula have the potential to reach his level, though. Kondogbia in particular,” Domenech told La Gazzette dello Sport.
“Kondogbia had a quiet first half of the season with Monaco, but really exploded in the second half. He did incredibly well in the Champions League.
“But now the difficult part starts for him. He has to justify the €35 million Inter paid for him. Psychologically, it will be harder for him than for Imbula due to his pricetag.
“Imbula reminds me a bit of Blaise Matuidi. He can dribble, beat his man and take risks. He has improved a lot under Marcelo Bielsa when it comes to reading the game.”
The 22-year-old Kondogbia has signed a five-year deal with Inter, while Imbula, 22, is close to joining Roberto Mancini’s side on a one-year loan deal with an obligation to buy.
