Inter are one of Europe's best, says new signing Polo

The 19-year-old is delighted with his deadline-day switch to the Serie A side and is eager to follow in the footsteps of former Nerazzurri striker Samuel Eto’o

New Inter signing Andy Polo is delighted to have moved to “one of the best teams in Europe” and is eager to link up with his “wonderful” new team-mates on the pitch.

The 19-year-old joined Walter Mazzarri’s side on deadline day last month from Peruvian outfit San Martin and is relishing the prospect of developing his career at the Giuseppe Meazza.

“Inter is one of the best teams in Europe, so I could not say no to a move,” the 19-year-old told Corriere dello Sport. “Anyone would like to play here.

“I am a striker but can fill multiple roles. I can be used both on the right and on the left, and can also play behind the striker.

“I am able to adapt to what the coach tells me.”

The Peruvian admits he is “honoured” to be following in the footsteps of current Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o by donning the Nerazzurri shirt, but has stressed he is eager to make his own mark at the club alongside a host of South American players.

“Playing at a club that Eto’o represented is an honour, but each player writes their own history. I have yet to make a name for myself,” Polo continued.

“At Inter I will have the opportunity to train with great champions like Hernanes, [Rodrigo] Palacio and all the others. It will be wonderful.

“I want to get into the first team soon but I need to earn my place.”

Polo, who has been used as a striker and a winger in his homeland, scored four goals in 23 appearances for San Martin over the past season after beginning his career with Universitario.

He has four caps apiece for the Peru Under-17 and U-20 sides.
