Frank de Boer immediately had problems at Inter, says Ronald

The former Barcelona player was dismissed from his role in charge of the Nerazzurri after just three months, and his brother has written about what went wrong

Ronald de Boer has suggested his brother, Frank, had everything going against him at Inter before his sacking on Tuesday.

Premier League clubs must avoid De Boer

The Dutchman signed a three-year deal with the Nerazzurri in August, replacing Roberto Mancini as coach less than two weeks before the Serie A campaign started. However, just three months later, he has been dismissed.

Despite ample investment in the first-team over the summer, with Joao Mario, Gabriel Barbosa and Antonio Candreva among others coming in, Inter sit 12th in the league, nine points off bottom placed Crotone and 13 behind leaders Juventus.

The board opted to let the former Ajax boss go, and his twin brother believes the job was too great for Frank, as the club is in such disarray with a large squad and too many “political aspects”.

“The Inter squad contains 29 players with the average age of 27,” the ex-Netherlands and Ajax star wrote in Voetbal International. “These are footballers that have made their mark in top football and you have to keep them happy. Most of them are internationals for their country and earn top salaries. The size of the squad has had a major impact for my brother.

Mourinho must trust Carrick like he does Ibrahimovic

“The club wanted him as coach to create a new style of playing and start a successful project. Frank immediately had two problems: the players were not fit enough, while the Serie A was close to starting when he began. Another thing was that managing such a big squad took a lot of time, while he should have been focussed on football topics.

“And then there were the political aspects. The enormous pressure from the media and the problems between captain Mauro Icardi and the fans. As coach, you want to focus on football, but at clubs like Inter this is not always possible.”
