3 Key Battles Which Could Decide the Tie as Inter Pursue Their Title Race Hopes Against Chievo

Luciano Spalletti has decided to call up his usual best 11 starters for Inter’s match against Chievo on Sunday afternoon.

The Nerazzurri are still unbeaten and hope to narrow the game with Napoli as they bid to win their first Serie A title since 2010.

Although Inter have won nine of the last 14 encounters with the Verona side, Spalletti won’t take any risks and will need all his men to counterbalance Chievo, who had a decent start to the season and sit ninth in the table.

Here are three clashes that could decide the match.

3. Stefano Sorrentino vs Mauro Icardi

Sorrentino may be 38 years old but has proved that age is not a problem when it comes to defending his goal.

His heroics against Spal were largely praised by the media last week, and he’s certainly going to try to do the same against Inter on Sunday.

However, he will have one of the best forwards in Serie A threatening his side. Mauro Icardi is the league’s top goalscorer, having netted 15 times in 14 matches, he’s always thirsty for goals, and the match with Chievo won’t be any different than the previous ones.

2. Antonio Candreva vs Përparim Hetemaj

The pair are likely to clash on the pitch as Candreva seeks to control the left flank with Hetemaj coming at him in the opposite direction.

In his sixth season with the blue-and-yellows, Hetemaj is one of the central pillars of his side and never misses a game.

Despite a rough start, Candreva is, on the other hand, slowly turning better and better every time he plays, always providing numerous assists for his teammates.

1. Roberto Inglese vs Samir Handanovic

Inter’s veteran goalkeeper has just agreed on an extension of his contract with the Nerazzurri until 2021 and will be eager to make his fans grateful for the decision.

His team’s defence is among the best ones in the league so far, having conceded only ten goals since the beginning of the season.

Chievo are relying on Roberto Inglese to determine their fortunes, although the youngster is already set to join Napoli either this January or at the end of the season.

The Italian is doing wonders this season and will certainly be a tough challenge for Handanovic.
