Shortly after the announcement of Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Barcelona, Inter have unveiled Samuel Eto’o after he successfully passed his medical at Appiano Gentile.
The Nerazzurri’s new striker was largely expected to sign tonight and put pen to paper on a five-year deal which will keep him at San Siro until 2014.
The Cameroonian is incredibly excited at the opportunity to start all over in a new country and has already claimed he wants to win the Champions League with Inter.
It is yet unsure when his official debut in the Nerazzurri shirt will be but the former Barça player is expected to join Jose Mourinho and his new teammates straight away.
We made from this deal 43m (selling Ibra to Barca), but if Hleb doesn’t arrive on loan, we could earn even more.
“It’s done. An agreement between Inter and ourselves has been reached. Yesterday Samuel spoke with Mourinho and he is very happy,” Mesalles said outside the offices of Inter Vice-President Rinaldo Ghelfi.
“The only problem is with Barcelona. The player may arrive on Monday or Tuesday to work with Inter. It’s not official, but the agreement with Inter has been made. It’s a five year deal,” Mesalles concluded.
“To replace a world class player like Ibrahimovic, another great goal scorer will arrive in the form of Eto’o,” captain Zanetti told Argentine newspaper ‘La Nacion.’
“He’ll form a perfect partnership with Milito. They will get on like a house on fire.”
“Our intention is to be at the top at international level as well as in Italy. We are putting together a very strong side, on a par with the best in Europe.
“Of course it won’t be easy to challenge for the Champions League, because all the contenders are gaining strength, but we are doing very well and I am confident.”
Inter have formally announced the signing of Bayern Munich and Brazil international centre-back Lucio for a fee believed to be around £4.5m.
The Nerazzurri have been trying to upgrade their defence all summer and shifted their attention to Lucio once Chelsea asked too much for Ricardo Carvalho.
“With all the paperwork now given into the offices of the Lega Nazionale Professionisti this afternoon, the purchase of the Brazilian international captain Lucio is now completed,” a club statement read.
The 31-year-old is certainly proven at the highest level, having won the World Cup in 2002 and Confederations Cup on two occasions.
“We extend our welcome to Lucio, who has signed with the club until June 30, 2012, from everyone at Inter and all our supporters,” the statement concluded.
Jose Mourinho will be particularly pleased with the acquisition as Inter struggled to find a regular centre-back pairing last season because of injuries.
The Brazilian sensation is counting the days until he is allowed to play for the Italian giants…
“I prefer to play near the box and to exchange passes with the strikers and shoot on goal, but I can adapt.
“I have been to Milan twice and Inter treated me very well. I liked it there and I have great memories of the city.”
